Carribean Cruises

carribean cruises
I just booked my first Royal Carribean cruise and have a question. Can you help?

I just booked a 7-day Mexican Riviera cruise on Royal Carribean, for my daughters and myself, for next March. Question: Is there any difference in dining attire between the early seating and late seating? Which seating did you prefer and why? (The earlier one just seems too early to me… but if the later one is dramatically more formal, we’ll eat early!!) :)

Thanks!

I have been on many Royal Caribbean cruises and can tell you that there is absolutely NO difference between the dinner seatings, except the time of day/evening. The dress on ship after 6:00 PM is always what is called “sports or resort casual”. That basically means that you are requested to wear clothes like slacks/pants, shirts, blouse, skirt, etc, the types of clothes you would wear in a business office. They just basically do not want you walking around the dining rooms, show rooms and casino in shorts and swim wear, flip flops, and sneakers. Its not like dress all the way up on a formal night but just tidy up a bit. Now if you want to stay at the pool or hot tub, or the gym, after 6:00 PM its OK to be dressed for those, But when its time to go to dinner or a show or the disco, put on the appropriate clothes.

The formal nights on the cruise are also REQUESTED attire rather than required. So if you want to wear a gown, party dress, or something really fancy you can. But if you just don’t want to do any formal you will be fine and they will not deny you entry to anything if you are not dressed formal.

We always select the early seating because it corresponds best to our normal dinner time of between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM. We do tours and activities on every cruise that we do, but not necessarily every port. But we usually select the early tours leaving about 9-10 AM and get back to the ship about 3 to 5 PM at the latest. That gives us an hour to clean up and get dressed for diner. And that’s always plenty of time for us. n fact, many ports we are back on ship by 3 and have time for a nap …LOL .. before getting dressed.

The early vs late seating is usually just a matter of personal choice. If you select the late seating and then find that you do not like it you MAY be able to change it to the early seating. If that’s the case just ask the Matre D to see if they can change you.
